Modular Typeface
Thread & Thrum
This typeface is based on a modular system I developed inspired by basic embroidery stitches. Each letter and the entire alphabet is composed of four modules: the backstitch, the french knot, the detached chain, and the seed stitch. The alphabet is named “thread & thrum” which is a term derived from weaving and has evolved into an idiom meaning “the good and the bad.” The analog nature of these letters means they are not uniform and consistent (the bad) but the overall effect of the letters when used together is comforting and grounding in a way vector graphics can’t quite capture (the good). Thread & Thrum is a unique modular alphabet perfect for projects like book covers, posters, and embroidery projects.
